THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, Jan. 2008 - Coast Guard Flotilla 66 started in Yorba Linda, CA

About 40 years ago (1970), George  Upton bought a boat and joined the Power Squadron.  At one point, the Power Squadron was invited by the USCG Auxiliary to do a VE with them. George then joined the Auxiliary , but had to drive to El Segundo for flotilla meetings.  A friend of his (Bob Seymour) mentioned needing USCG Auxiliary Flotillas in Orange County.  George recruited his Power Squadron members and formed Division 15 about 1973.  They began as 15-01. Soon, they had 47 members and 21 facilities. One member was driving all the way to OC from Palm Springs, so George thought a flotilla should be formed in the desert area.  They formed the desert forces,15-08 about 1977. George Upton & Bob Seymour helped Marcia Stepp with the 15-08 in Palm Springs.

About 2007, after 33 years as a desert flotilla15-08 moved to Yorba Linda, CA. The flotilla was renamed Flotilla 66 in 2010 when District 11sr, Division 15 was renamed Division 6.
